PH1100 – Finishing Up

December 7, 2018

Hi folks,

Just a couple of FYI things:

Due to today’s late opening, PH1100 – G did not get an opportunity to finish the last of the notes. Given this, there will be a couple of topics that will NOT appear on the final exam:
– center of mass for a system of particles (the last topic in unit 8)
– impulse and the impulse/momentum theorem (the first topic in unit 8; we were going to return to it but couldn’t)

We’ll also be limiting our treatment of momentum and collisions to 1-dimensional collisions, ie. no angles before or after the collision.

I’ve scheduled a tutorial for Monday afternoon (December 10th) starting at 1pm in the physics lab. There is no end time for the tutorial; we’ll go until you folks have run out of questions. I’ll have any outstanding tests and assignments to return at that point. Just a note, all assignments up to number 5 have been returned at this point, so I’ll only be accepting assignment 6 on Monday.

Cheers, and see you Monday afternoon,
Gerry

Tomorrow’s Lab,Monday, Nov. 5th

November 4, 2018

Hi folks,

As per my email, I’ve got a doctor’s appointment tomorrow at 1:30pm. While that should theoretically give me time to get back to campus before the lab at 2:30, there is a strong possibility that I won’t, based on my past experiences at the doctor. Rather than have you folks wait, in case I’m not back on campus until after 2:30, I’ll cancel tomorrow’s lab and we’ll reconvene next Monday to get back at the labs.

Cheers,
G

PH1100 – Today’s Lab, Monday, Oct. 29th

October 29, 2018

Hi folks,

Apologies for my lateness today. I was held up at home. By the time I arrived you folks had moved on, and I understand that. Sorry for wasting your time! We’ll get back to the regularly scheduled labs next week.

All labs and tests for Monday, October 1st are cancelled/postponed

September 30, 2018

Hi folks,

Due to the closure on Friday, there is an assumption that students were left without the ability to gather necessary materials stored in lockers (textbooks, etc) for testing, so the College has directed us to postpone all assessment that would have taken place on Monday. That means the test for PH1100 – group G will necessarily be postponed to the Friday morning slot (8:30 am), and the lab for PH1100 – group F is cancelled for tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay, folks; if you need review/refreshing before the test, I’ll be available in the help center on Thursday from 1:30 to 3:30.

Cheers,
G

ET1120 students: Assignment #1 etc.

September 26, 2018

Hi folks,

Your worksheets for the first unit and the first assignment have been uploaded as promised. Sorry for the delay. Our first test will consist of 5 long answer questions, each of which could potentially have multiple parts. We’ll have a chance to review on the morning of the test (next Tuesday!) if there’s anything from the worksheets that’s hanging you up.

See you next week!

PH1051 – Lab 5 – Not Today!

February 15, 2018

Hi folks,

We’ve got one lab left to punch out in PH1051 and we have lots of time in which to do it, so we’re going to take this week slow and postpone the lab. We’ll meet up to get the labs finished next week. I’ll see you all then.

February 7, 2018

Hi folks,

Today’s class has been cancelled, and because of that, we have to move the test we were scheduled to write in that class to the next available period. We’ll write the test tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 8th, in our 1:30 pm class.

Cheers,
G
